Orchard People and the TreeMobile team are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s Grants. Orchard People has been pivotal in the urban orchard movement. TreeMobile started 11 years ago to help create a better world; all of you are helping to grow and expand it. This grant exists to help you realize your dreams, especially for the smaller projects that don’t fit into the stereotypical grant model.

All of your projects are amazing and the choice was, as always, very difficult. Thank you all for your wonderful submissions. It is heartening to see the initiative and creativity you all have to make the world better, more fruitful, fairer, and generous. You are all planting hope and resilience.

And the winners are…..(drum roll please)

Edible Forest:

  1. Lakeside Community Garden_Kingston (includes 30-min consult with Orchard People)

Orchard:

  1. Equinox School_Toronto (includes 8 hours online training)
  2. Strata Montessori School_Dundas (includes 8 hours online training)
  3. Secret Neighbourhood_Toronto (includes online book)
  4. Green Venture_Hamilton (includes online book)

Garden/Fedge:

  2. Mollison Park_Guelph
  3. St. George CG_Toronto
  4. Two Rivers CG_Guelph

We will be in touch to discuss your plant requirements; stock in the nursery trade is very low this year but we will do the best we can. We regret not being able to award to you all. Orchard People links to classes and books will be sent separately.

For applicants who were unsuccessful this year, feel free to resubmit next year when your projects are further along  (note to Stouffville: we do not award grants to private gardens, though we love your community project and wish you the best). For the new gardens, you can use this year to prep your tree sites by composting on the site of your future trees to prepare the land. For the school projects, we hope we can be of more help to you when the Covid situation is behind us, and use this year to get your gardens and plans in place.

You are all green heroes!

Fruitfully yours,

Virginie
